Alberta-British Columbia Seed Growers announces new board of directors
Feb. 28, 2023 (Okotoks, AB) – Alberta-British Columbia Seed Growers is pleased to announce its new board of directors for the upcoming year, following the organization’s 94th Annual General Meeting held in South Edmonton. This was the first in-person meeting since February 2020, and it provided a great social atmosphere for members and industry alike.
At the AGM, the organization recognized many long-serving seed grower members and presented two Bill Witbeck Awards in recognition of valuable service to pedigreed seed production in Canada to Gordon Hill and Renee Hoyme. Additionally, an Honorary Life Member Award was extended to Dr. Sheri Strydhorst in recognition of her valuable service to the seed industry in Alberta.
ABCSG is happy to welcome Brian Ellis as the incoming president. After serving four years on the board, two of which as vice president, Brian is ready to expand his role on the ABCSG Executive. As both a farmer and manufacturer, Ellis is well-versed in the seed industry. As a devoted advocate and lifelong learner, he brings to the board unparallel experience and expertise.
ABCSG is pleased to announce that Sarah Weigum has accepted the role of vice president. Sarah’s passion for advocacy has seen her take on leadership roles within other provincial boards. Sarah’s wide array of experience will serve as an asset on our board as we look to improve outcomes for seed growers in western Canada.
“We are thrilled to have such a talented and committed group of individuals leading our organization,” said Kelly Chambers, executive director of ABCSG. “We are confident that their expertise and dedication will help us continue to make a positive impact on the seed industry in Alberta and British Columbia.”
In addition to the new president and vice president, the board welcomes two new provincial directors: Steven Meinczinger and Stephen Sendziak. Both individuals bring unique skills and experience to the table and are committed to supporting the organization’s mission.
